This one covers everything from network updates and podcast scheduling headaches to Gene’s trip to The Gathering, the great Jimmy Garvin/Freebirds debate, memories of Brian Christopher, modern WWE backstage programming, upcoming Retro Wrestling Archive plans, and enough random side roads to make it feel like a true live show.
The show kicks off in classic fashion, with Robb battling the Texas heat, paying tribute to the Moondogs in the pool, and the crew immediately derailing into jokes before Gene gets the train back on the tracks. From there, it becomes a mix of real RWA business, behind the scenes talk, wrestling convention stories, and the kind of back and forth that only happens when this crew is all in the same place at the same time.
One of the most interesting parts of this episode is the honest talk about the current state of wrestling podcasting. Gene and Robb don’t sugarcoat it. Booking interviews can be frustrating, guests are understandably guarded, and a lot of bad podcasters have made the process harder for everyone. Instead of forcing interviews just to fill a schedule, Gene lays out a smarter path forward: better conversations when they’re available, and stronger deep dive content when they’re not.
The Gathering stories are the heart of the fun side of the episode. Gene tells the full story of trying to get through the Freebirds photo line, nearly missing a photo op with USWA & Power Pro Podcast favorite Miss Texas, and accidentally creating a great moment with Michael Hayes by calling him “Dad.”
There’s also a more reflective stretch as the crew talks about Brian Christopher on the anniversary of his passing. Since Brian is becoming more and more important in the 1991 USWA timeline and already plays a major role in the Power Pro coverage it gives the conversation some real weight in the middle of all the jokes and convention madness.
